Mississippi Heroes and Home Depot team up to giveback to caregiver

Organizations got together and collaborated on a very special project for a caregiver in Biloxi.

Mississippi Heroes is known for recognizing and showing appreciation for caregivers, but thanks to Home Depot, they were able to give a little extra to a Biloxi woman who is caring for her mom.

Striving to make people feel loved and valued, Mississippi Heroes is a nonprofit organization dedicated to recognizing everyday heroes who selflessly provided care to others while asking nothing in return.

Valerie Cushman tirelessly cares for her mother, Linda, who battles Parkinson’s Disease.

Earlier this year, Mississippi Heroes surprised the Biloxi residents with a new electric stove, but after visiting them realized they could do more. MS Heroes Executive Director Katherine Sutton said, “We came to honor them and then we saw an additional need, Ms. Linda and Ms. Valerie, she takes care of her mom and she’s in a wheel chair and their ramp is falling apart and we just, it’s a hazard.”

Due to Mississippi Heroes not having a whole lot of funding, they aren’t able to do huge projects, but with the help of a grant from Home Depot, they are able to do their biggest project yet. “We kinda reached out to a few different people and Home Depot responded and they were like we have a grant that would actually fit this specific need. So, it worked out really well, Mississippi Heroes we celebrate caregivers but we don’t have the funding for big projects like this so we were able to create that community partnership to make it happen.”

Valerie and Linda were beside themselves watching the crew at work and they were overwhelmed with gratitude that Mississippi Heroes wanted to continue helping and supporting them.
