TAKES A LOOK AT THE GRIM NUMBERS. ACCORDING TO THE CDC, MORE KIDS DIE BY FIREARMS THAN CAR ACCIDENTS. WE SPOKE WITH A VICTIM OF GUN VIOLENCE WHO WAS CARJACKED RIGHT HERE IN THE HEA ORTF BELLE HAVEN, WHO SAYS HE’S TURNING A DEVASTATING SITUATION INTO A POSITIVE ONE. A GRIM STATISTIC IN THE MAGNOLIA STATE. LUCKILY, I WAS BLESSED TO NOT BE A STATISTIC AOR NUMBER. ALEX MOORE IS A VICTIM OF GUN VIOLENCE IN THE CAPITAL CITY. TWO MONTHS AGO, HE WAS HELD AT GUNPOINT OUTSIDE OF HIS HOME BECAUSE IT’NOS T NORMAL FOR YOU TO GET CARJACKED BY TWO PEOPLE WITH TWO GSUN AND WOUND UP NOT DYING. I DON’T KNOW WHY THEY DIDN’T PULL THE TRIGGER THAT DAY. MOORE SAYS HE’S LUCKY TO WALK AWAY FROM A SITUATION THAT COULD HAVE ENDED DIFFERENTLY, ACCORDING TO THE CDC IN 2020, MISSISSIPPI WAS NUMBER ONE IN THE NATION IN FIREARM MORTALITY PER 100,000 PEOPLE. THIS GRAPH SUGGESTS THAT MORE KIDS DIE BY FIREARMS THAN CAR ACCIDENTS. I THINK IT’S SAD THAT I FEEL LIKE THIS KIDS AREN’T GETTING LED TO SAFETY. IN THE CAPITAL CITY, WE’VE SEEN AN UPTICK IN YOUNG KIDS BEING VICTIMS OF GUN VIOLENCE. JUST LAST WEEK AND ONE DAY, FOUR KIDS WERE SHOT IN SEPARATE SITUATIONS. ETHUATIONS. OLDEST WAS 16. THE YOUNGEST JUST SIX YEARS OLD. I’VE BEEN REMINDED OF HOW PURE AND HOW VITAL IT IS THAT WE GET TO THEM BEFORE THE WORLD GETS TO THEM. MOORE IS A LIFE COACH WHO MOSTLY DEALS WITH ADULTS, BUT HE SAYS TH AT COULD SOON CHANGE. I HAVE HAD IT ON MY HEART FOR A VERY LONG TIME TO GO SPEAK AT SCHOOLS BECAUSE I WAS BULLIED. MOORE GREW UP IN THE MAGNOLIA STATE AND HE SAYS TO SEE THIS STATISTIC CHANGE OVER YESAR IS JUST DEVASTATING. AND THAT’S WHY HE WANTS TO USE HIS CAREER TO HELP MAKAE DIFFERENCE IN JACKSON.
