MOBILE, Ala. – South Alabama scored the final 10 runs of the game and ULM was held without a hit in the final six innings as the Jaguars rallied past the Warhawks, 12-4, Friday night at Stanky Field.

In a game that was delayed at the start by an hour and a half due to rain and lightning, ULM (16-32-1 overall, 6-18-1 Sun Belt Conference) started strong. Mason Holt doubled with one out in the top of the first inning and scored on Grant Schulz’s RBI single. Michelle Artzberger’s single with the hit-and-run on put runners on first and third base. Colby Deaville hit a sacrifice fly to score Schulz. Landon Cato took advantage of another hit-and-run, hitting a double to the right center field gap to score Artzberger for a 3-0 lead after half an inning.

South Alabama (28-20, 14-11) answered in the bottom of the first. The Jaguars had runners on second and third with two outs when Santi Montiel reached on an error, allowing USA to cut the gap to 3-2.

Holt hit a solo home run to straight-away center to open the top of the third, doubling ULM’s lead back to 4-2.

South Alabama scored in each of its final five turns at bat. The Jaguars answered in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring a run on a wild pitch with two outs to get within a run, 4-3.

USA rallied for the lead in the fifth inning, putting up four runs on just two hits, taking advantage of a hit batter, a walk and a throwing error, to go on top 7-4. Carter Sanford hit an RBI single to give USA a 5-4 lead and Erick Orbeta’s two-RBI single extended the advantage to 7-4.

Hunter Donaldson hit an RBI single and Sanford added an RBI double in the sixth to extend the lead to 9-4.

In the seventh inning, a wild pitch and an RBI groundout by Donaldson pushed the USA lead to 11-4.

South Alabama added its final run in the eighth inning when Montiel was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring home Cameron Tissue.

The Warhawks chased South Alabama starting pitcher Matt Boswell after four innings. He allowed four runs on six hits with five strikeouts and one walk on 99 pitches.
