The week 10 leaderboard makes a formidable résumé for the state of Mississippi

The state of Mississippi seems to be getting back on its feet under Mike Leach.

Behind dynamic second quarterback Will Rogers, the Bulldogs won straight after losing to Alabama in Tuscaloosa 2. While they were expected to beat Vanderbilt – and easily done so with a 45-6 defeat at Nashville – they faced a much tougher challenge in the form of Kentucky.

Rogers was almost perfect, however, going 36 out of 39 for 344 yards when the Bulldogs saw their defense come up with 3 interceptions from Will Levis in an angry win over the Wildcats. And with the publication of the Coaches Poll Top 25 on Sunday, they are the only team in the FBS that has 3 wins over the teams currently placed in the survey, as Chuck Dunlap, SEC communications director, notes:

With NC State ranked 22nd in the coaches poll, @HailStateFB is the only team in the nation to have three wins against teams currently in the top 25.

As Dunlap noted, the Bulldogs beat NC State on September 11th by 24-10, with their win over Kentucky – at 17th – and their 26-22 win over Texas A&M – at 12th – being the top 2 25 victories were counted.

Leach’s team can secure bowl eligibility with a win in Arkansas on Saturday. The kickoff in the SEC network is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. ET.
