Aguiard, Ferreira lead Alabama men’s tennis at UCF

NONA LAKE, Fla. Enzo Aguiard and Joao Ferreira led the Alabama men’s tennis team at the UCF Invite Saturday at the Collegiate Tennis Center.

The duo Aguiard and Ferreira from Alabama opened the day for the Crimson Tide with a 6-4 win over Alvin Tudorica and Sergio Gomez Montesa from South Florida.

Both Aguaird and Ferreira followed their one-two with a victory in the singles. Aguaird fought Ivan Yatsuk from South Florida in his first individual match of the day. The UA freshman won the first set 6-0 but suffered a 6-4 defeat in the second set to make a third set. The two players battled their way up to a 6-6 result when Aguaird rallied in the tie-break to make a 7-6 (3) decision in the third set.

Ferreira won his second individual matchup, defeating Florida State’s John Bernard in straight sets. Ferreira went 6-2 in the first set before leading to the win 6-3 in the second set.

Next

The Crimson Tide returns tomorrow to close the UCF Invite. The team will compete against members from central Florida on Sunday at 8 a.m. CT.
