BLS: Mississippi Unemployment Rate Rises to 4.0% as of December 2022

The US Bureau of Labor Statistics recently released its summary of state employment and unemployment for the past month.

In December, unemployment rates were higher in 7 states, lower in 5 states and stable in 38 states and the District of Columbia. Nonfarm payrolls fell in one state and remained essentially unchanged in 49 states and the District of Columbia. The national unemployment rate (3.5 percent) is down 0.2 percent from the previous month and is 0.4 percentage points lower than in December 2021.

The current unemployment rate for Mississippi (as of December 2022) is 4.0 percent.

For comparison, the unemployment rate for the previous reporting month (November 2022) was given as 3.9 percent.

Mississippi records a 0.7 percent decrease from the same point last year (December 2021).

Mississippi’s unemployment rate was 4.6 percent at the start of last year (as of January 2022).

The national unemployment rate is currently 3.5 percentwhich is down 0.2 percent since November 2022 (last month’s report).
