Man serving life sentence escapes from Alabama prison
State prison officials are looking for Mitchell Lindsey, a man who escaped from Kilby Correctional Facility this morning.
Lindsey, 29, escaped just before 8:30 am from the prison, which is located in Montgomery County, according to a news release from the Alabama Department of Corrections. Prison officials described Lindsey as 6 feet 2 inches tall, 165 pounds and wearing a brown or khaki prison uniform. He has brown hair and blue eyes, according to the release.
A Morgan County judge in 2015 sentenced Lindsey to life in prison. A jury found him guilty of reckless murder for a crash that killed 68-year-old Bessie Louise Stovall.
Police were chasing Lindsey on May 19, 2012 as he drove a stolen vehicle through Decatur. Witnesses told police that Lindsey sped through a stop sign and hit Stovall’s vehicle. She died at the scene.
Anyone with information about Lindsey’s whereabouts is asked to contact ADOC at 1-800-831-8825.
