State of emergency declared for Arkansas in winter weather

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KAIT) — As winter weather continues to move through Arkansas, more action is being taken at the state level.

On Monday, Jan. 30, Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders issued an executive order requiring $250,000 to be channeled from the governor’s Disaster Response and Recovery Fund for use by the director of the Arkansas Division of Emergency Management.

“Adverse circumstances have affected the citizens and public property of Arkansas,” said a press release. “These political divisions require additional government support to recover from these losses.”

That same day, Sanders activated the Arkansas National Guard to provide “round-the-clock” assistance to the Arkansas State Police with stranded drivers while the storm rolled through.
