The Illinois women’s tennis team played their last fall preseason games last weekend at the Tennessee Hidden Dual in Knoxville. The Illinois had games Thursday through Saturday, facing players like Tennessee, Kentucky and Vanderbilt. Each of these three schools provided the Genealogie with valuable experience in further preparation for the start of the regular season in spring.

The game for the Illinois began on Thursday in the doubles competition against Tennessee. It was a difficult afternoon as strong Tennessee teams defeated Illinois 3-0 and duos Emily Casati / Kida Ferrari, Josie Frazier / Ashley Yeah and Kate Duong / Kasiareiber defeated.

The Illinois fights continued later that day in singles against Kentucky, and by the end of the day they finished 2-5. Kate Duong and Junior Ashley Yeah won their matches for the Illinois. However, senior Shivani Ingle, juniors Josie Frazier and Emily Casati, and newcomer Kida Ferrari and Kasia driver all suffered losses to Kentucky.

On the second day of action on Friday, Illinois continued to play in both doubles and singles. Illinois got off to an early start in doubles, going 0-3 against Vanderbilt. The duos Frazier / Yeah, Casati / Ferrari and Duong / Driver all lost their games against difficult Commodore teams. However, the Illinois women’s doubles teams were later able to recover 2-1 in their games against Kentucky. The Illinois duo Yeah / Casati were defeated, but the Duong / Frazier and Driver / Ferrari teams were able to defeat their opponents.

In the single game on the same day, Illinois went 0-7. Duong, Yeah, Frazier, Driver, Ferrari, Ingle and Casati all lost their matches against competitors from Vanderbilt.

Saturday was the last day of action for Illinois in individual matchups against Tennessee. The Illinois made sure the event ended with a strong 4-2 against the Volunteers. Duong and Yeah lost their matches, but Frazier, Driver, Ferrari and Ingle outdid their opponents. It was a formidable performance by Illinois against a team from Tennessee who had recently been crowned champions ITA Ohio Valley Regionals Individual competition the week before.

The Tennessee Hidden Dual in Knoxville was the final preseason event for the Illinois women’s tennis team. The Illinois had previously competed at the ITA Midwest Regionals in Urbana, the Vanderbilt Hidden Dual Invite in Nashville and the ITA Midwest Super Regionals in Columbus. They faced a variety of different opponents from different schools and gained crucial experience in the course of this autumn in further preparation for the start of the regular season 2022 in spring.
