AAA says Louisiana drivers to pay over $3 at the pump

Gas prices continue to surge across the country, and it’s hitting Louisiana drivers quickly. AAA Louisiana spokesman Don Redman says gas prices in Louisiana jumped 10 cents in just a week, and the increase is likely to continue. On Wednesday OPEC announced its cutting oil production by 2 million barrels a day. “We’re seeing a diminishing in supplies and we still have a robust demand for gasoline which is pushing those prices upward, that’s going to drive the cost of crude on the market even higher,” Redman said. Russia’s invasion during the summer is one of the reasons experts say gas prices surge. Redman added the US began diesel exports to Europe which also impacted prices. He said usually during this time of year, there is a price break for gas and it continues through the winter but there is still a robust demand for gasoline. “The upper trend for these prices that we could see in Louisiana is prices returning to essentially $3.50 a gallon in the coming weeks,” Redman said. Gas prices are also impacting businesses. Milton Vallare, owner of Weathers Flowers Market in Slidell said he had to raise prices to offset the price of gas. “We’ve just had to raise the prices, delivery feeds and prices of goods have went up,” Vallare said. “Maybe 10 percent, could be as much as 15 percent in some cases, some things are harder to get, all the flowers come out of South America.” Drivers also feel the pain of higher prices. Chris Bellou told WDSU, “I’m driving around a lot and I have to commute every day and you really feel it at the end of the month when you look at how much you spent.””Regardless of what the price is, I ‘m filling up my tank, no matter what,” Bellou said.
