Franklin, Louisiana: Man arrested in shooting

In the past year, shootings have ravaged communities across Acadiana. St Mary Parish police officers say they have now apprehended a second suspect in a January 31, 2023 shooting incident.

The first person arrested in connection with the Canal Drive shooting was a juvenile. We’ve had dozens of cases like this over the last year.

Now officials with the St. Mary Sheriff’s Office say they have arrested a 39-year-old suspect in connection with last Tuesday’s shooting.

Around 3:40 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, people called 911 after reports of multiple gunfire.

Deputies went to the scene of the crime and found that luckily no one had been shot, but one of the bullets fired hit a car.

They arrested a youth in connection with the case on Wednesday February 1st. Deputies arrested Courtney Ina von Franklin on the following charges:

  • Principal to attempted second-degree murder
  • Client for serious criminal damage to property
  • Policy on the illegal use of a weapon
  • Principal in the illegal possession of a handgun by a youth
  • obstruction of justice

Franklin Police Department officials say they are still actively investigating this case.

Interim Chief Tina Thibodeaux’s office wants people to come forward to help them solve this case.
