Popeyes brings its trademark Louisiana-style chicken to the land of Chicken 65 with its first store in Chennai’s Phoenix MarketCity. The brand is known for its flavorful Cajun seasoning and shatter crunch breaded chicken.
Cajun cuisine was developed in 18th-century Louisiana by exiled Acadians, influenced by a blend of West African, French, Spanish, and Acadian cooking techniques. Typically, this flavor is the result of chili, onion, garlic, celery, and a blend of herbs. Founded in 1972 in New Orleans, USA, Popeyes has 3,900 restaurants in over 30 countries. It made its Indian debut in Bengaluru last year.
Chef Amir Arora, General Manager of New Product Development at Popeyes India, says: “We source all these ingredients locally. We source our chilies from Telangana and even celery can now be grown here. We make sure the chicken is fresh and antibiotic free. It’s marinated for over 12 hours, then breaded and fried.”
The signature chicken sandwich is served with a piece of Cajun-spiced boneless chicken, Cajun mayonnaise and pickles between brioche buns. The chicken convinces with its strong aromas, complemented by the creamy mayonnaise and the spicy gherkins. There is also a chicken pack and a rice bowl.
Popeye’s Fried Chicken
There are two veggie sandwiches, a wrap and a rice bowl. The classic vegetable burger comes with lettuce, onions, tomatoes and a vegetable patty with natural mayonnaise. The Cajun veggie burger has the same patty with jalapenos, onion rings, and Cajun mayonnaise.
For the sides, there’s a Popeyes chicken on the bone, Cajun chicken popcorn, Cajun chicken tenders, onion rings, Cajun fries along with grilled chicken and sweet chili wings that provide a much-needed relief from all things Cajun . Desserts are planned.
This quick service restaurant was brought to India by Jubilant FoodWorks Limited (JFL), a leading provider of foodservice services. Sameer Khetrapal, CEO and General Manager of JFL says Chennai can expect more branches soon.
