SLU Heads to McNeese for Southland Match

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women’s tennis team will be back in action Friday, traveling to McNeese for a Southland Conference match in Lake Charles.

First serve between SLU (2-13, 1-3 Southland) and the host Cowgirls (2-13, 0-3 SLC) is set for 2 pm

Southeastern will be looking for its second straight victory. The Lions defeated UIW, 4-3, last Sunday in Hammond. SLU took the doubles point, then single victories by Putri Insani, Kate Oborina and Flory Bierma secured the victory.

Insani has been the top singles player for Southeastern. The Jakarta, Indonesia enters Friday’s contest with a 5-3 overall record and a 3-1 mark versus league competition.

Insani and Bierma make up SLU’s top doubles team. Playing on the No. 1 court, the Lion duo (7-2, 2-0 SLC) has won five consecutive matches. Sonya Kanarskaya and Polina Paunova are 2-2 in league matches at No. 2 for Southeastern.

McNeese heads into Friday’s match looking for its first Southland victory of the spring. Natalia Ballo has a team best 5-8 singles mark. The Cowgirls are led in doubles play by the tandem of Ballo and Yukina Abe (2-4, 1-1 SLC).

Following Friday’s match, SLU will return home to host Dillard next Wednesday, April 6 at 4 pm at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
